Selective monitoring of breath isoprene by a portable detector during exercise and at rest

چکیده

Isoprene has received widespread attention in breath research because of its potential to serve as a sensitive and non-invasive biomarker for the detection monitoring several metabolic effects. To date, activity on isoprene focused mass spectrometry-based measurement techniques, which are not portable require skilled operators. Here, we show, first time our knowledge, selective exhaled (148 samples, 60–1250 parts-per-billion, ppb) with an inexpensive, user-friendly compact filter–sensor device. This detector is based previously developed concept comprising sorption filter activated alumina that removes hydrophilic volatiles ahead micro gas sensor consisting chemoresistive Si-doped WO3 nanoparticles quantify down few ppb concentrations. When tested humans during exercise at rest, accurately followed dynamics linear (Pearson’s coefficient 0.89) correlation proton transfer reaction spectrometry measurements. Most importantly, output from device interfered by high variable concentrations other volatile compounds, specifically acetone, ethanol methanol. can be readily applied online physical activity.

Energy Expenditure at Rest and During Exercise

The immediate source for muscle contraction is delivered from splitting of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and a ‘free’ phosphate ion (P). This reaction is very fast and does not normally limit energy turnover andmuscle performance. However, the ATP stores in the muscles are very limited. The whole ATP pool would be emptied in only a few seconds of muscle contraction...

Breath acetone monitoring by portable Si:WO3 gas sensors.

Breath analysis has the potential for early stage detection and monitoring of illnesses to drastically reduce the corresponding medical diagnostic costs and improve the quality of life of patients suffering from chronic illnesses. In particular, the detection of acetone in the human breath is promising for non-invasive diagnosis and painless monitoring of diabetes (no finger pricking). Here, a ...

testing plays a vital role in any language teaching program. it allows teachers and stakeholders, including program administrators, parents, admissions officers and prospective employers to be assured that the learners are progressing according to an accepted standard (douglas, 2010). the problems currently facing language testers have both practical and theoretical implications but the first i...

Dynamics of left ventricular filling at rest and during exercise.

Left ventricular filling dynamics were examined at rest and during supine bicycle exercise in 33 patients at cardiac catheterization; 23 had coronary artery disease (ischemia group), five with prior infarction had an akinetic area at rest (scar group), and five had minimal cardiovascular disease (control). Peak filling rate and mean filling rate during the first half and second half of diastole...

Hemodynamic effects of practolol at rest and during exercise.

SUMMARY The effects of practolol, a new beta-adrenergic blocking agent, and propranolol were studied in volunteers. At rest, practolol caused a very small reduction in cardiac index (CI), 190 ml, P < 0.25, and preejection period (PEP) lengthened 3 msec, P < 0.025. In contrast, propranolol caused a reduction in CI of 770 ml, P < 0.001. Heart rate (HR) slowed 10 beats/min, P < 0.001, stroke volum...
